Repair & Reproofing

Reproofing

Although we design our raincoats to be maintenance-free, the properties of the materials will change over time. This does not mark the end of the life cycle of our products, it means that you have the opportunity to show care and attention to the raincoat that has served you for a long time.

To ensure the long-term effectiveness of your raincoat, follow these few simple steps:

  1. Clean

Clean your raincoat with cold water and a cloth. Do not use hot water, soap and never put your raincoat in the washing machine, it will remove the wax coating and cannot be waxed again.

  2. Prepare

Take a jar of Whalers Bay wax, after removing the lid place it in hot enough water to make the wax evenly soft. Keep the jar in hot water throughout the waxing process.

  3. Wax

Using a cloth or sponge to rub the melted wax on the fabric evenly, paying greater attention to seams and nicks. Remove excess wax.

  4. Smoothen

After waxing, heat your waxed raincoat with a hair dryer to achieve a smooth finish.

  5. Dry

Hang your raincoat to dry for a day. Try to find a warm and sheltered place where the waxed coat does not come into contact with other garments.

Should you manage have a tear, unlike other raincoats made of artificial materials, ours can be easily mended as the product is made of thick cotton fabric, it can be sewn back together. After sewing, reproof the patch as if you would other seams.

It is important to understand that repairs and wear add value to your raincoat. Traces of wear are a sign of experience and show that you have used your raincoat as intended.
